Writing Gems #1: Basic Story Structure

I've decided to start something new on my blog.  I'm calling it "Writing Gems" hence this post's title.  I feel like I've learned a lot over the last six years, and I remember being at the beginning of writing Cobbogoth and feeling completely clueless about how to even start writing a novel.  I researched and researched, read books, and attended conferences, and over a LONG time, I gleaned a lot of valuable knowledge.

Now, I know there are a few people following my blog, who are also aspiring writers, and I feel like if someone would've been willing to walk me through the steps of writing a novel, I would've been EXTREMELY grateful to them.

So, this is sort of my way of  paying it forward as well as saying "thank you!" to all of you who have shown me and Cobbogoth so much support.  Every so often I'm going to be posting videos and posts where I expound on some of the major things that have made writing much easier for me.  If you're just starting out, and feel like you're a little clueless about how to begin your novel, hopefully these videos will come in handy!

Enjoy!

  1. Nice explanitation. I'd love to see your outlining process. I think I'm an outliner but I haven't yet found a great way to do it.

  6. So glad to see that you're starting to post more writing stuff! Sadly I can not get the video to work through your blog for some reason. Could you e-mail it to me? That'd be fantastic!

    Thanks :D
